Helpful Information
SESSION LOCATION OPTIONS
LOCATION
Sessions can take place at Michigan Feldenkrais office, at your location or via Zoom. When scheduling, please note these options and select your preference.

PARKING & ACCESSIBILITY
There is plenty of free parking. There are ramps at either end of the parking that faces the building. There are handrails on the stairs. There is a small ramp up from the main sidewalk to the entry door with a small threshold. The bathroom has handrails. Please reach out if you have additional questions.
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
INTENTION
Consider what you'd like to take some steps toward during and following your session. In other words, what you would like to make some progress on, have some insights into, or simply explore with a more open-ended approach.

WHAT TO WEAR
Feldenkrais sessions take place while fully clothed. Please wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict your ability to move. You may wish to have extra layers available to adjust for temperature.

SCHEDULING
Plan some buffer time after your session to allow for integration. Ideally you will allow a couple hours before returning to work or doing any physically demanding activity like going to the gym. This is not always possible, and integration and progress can still occur.

PAYMENT AND SCHEDULING SESSIONS
If possible, make payment and handle future session scheduling at the beginning of your session or prior to your session. This facilitates being able to linger with the effects of your session.​
DURING YOUR SESSION
VERBAL DIRECTIONS AND/OR HANDS-ON TOUCH​
Your session will involve some combination of verbal directions or gentle, non-invasive, non-judgmental touch. If you prefer one of these and not the other, please express that prior to your session if possible. If your preference changes mid-session, please know that you are always at-choice and can make adjustments to any aspect of your session at any time.

SESSIONS OFTEN INVOLVE A VARIETY OF POSITIONS
Most commonly, sessions involve lying on a Feldenkrais table - on your back, side or stomach. Sessions may also involve sitting in a chair or on the table, standing, kneeling, walking. A session could involve sitting in a wheelchair or using other supportive devices. Positions are tailored both to your ability to be fully comfortable in them as well as to what best-serves the movement explorations. A variety of padding options as well as supportive bolsters, pillows and pads are available.

REFERENCE MOVEMENT(S)
You will likely be asked to explore a reference movement (or several) at the start of your session. This often includes walking but may involve other everyday actions as well as movements very specific to your interests. This reference establishes a baseline from which you can more easily feel changes in sensation and movement (as well as thinking and feeling).

HOME PRACTICE OPTION
At the end of your session some home practice may be suggested with custom written options, audio recordings or videos may be provided.

FELDENKRAIS IS VERY ADAPTABLE
One of the hallmarks of the Feldenkrais Method is its adaptability to meet anyone's needs. Please do not hesitate to request anything that will improve your comfort, feeling of safety, ability to relax, absorb and learn from your session. We will co-create your session please feel that you have agency throughout your session to adjust, modify, change, start, stop, etc.
